National Resources
The Annie E. Casey Foundation works to build better futures for disadvantaged children and their families in the United States. Its mission is to foster public policies, improved human services, and community supports that effectively meet the needs of today's vulnerable children and families.
Child Welfare League of America is the nation's oldest and largest membership-based child welfare organization. CWLA promotes the well-being of children, youth, and their families, and works to protect every child from harm. CWLA is an association of more than 1,100 public and private nonprofit agencies that assist over 3.5 million abused and neglected children and their families each year with a wide range of services.
The Children’s Bureau (US Dept of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, Children’s Bureau Express) is the oldest federal agency for children. It assists states in the delivery of child welfare services designed to protect children and strengthen families. The agency provides grants to states, tribes, and communities to operate a range of child welfare services, including child protective services (child abuse and neglect) family preservation and support, foster care, adoption, and independent living. The Children's Bureau Express is designed for professionals concerned with child abuse and neglect, child welfare, and adoption.
The National Adoption Information Clearinghouse, a comprehensive resource on all aspects of adoption, is a service of the Children's Bureau, Administration on Children, Youth and Families, Administration for Children and Families, and the Department of Health and Human Services.
The National Mental Health Association, the country's oldest and largest nonprofit organization, addresses all aspects of mental health and mental illness. With more than 340 affiliates nationwide, NMHA works to improve the mental health of all Americans, especially the 54 million individuals with mental disorders, through advocacy, education, research and service. This site is specific to child mental health issues.
Project Resilience, a private organization based in Washington, DC, offers teaching materials, provides training, and disseminates information for professionals working in education, treatment, and prevention. It promotes a strengths-based approach to both youth and adults struggling to overcome such hardships as family disruption, poverty, violence, substance abuse, and racism.
